Apquip has patented a system that utililizes luminescence sensors to detect the absence of adhesive for finger jointers with automatic corners. The Apquip system can identify insufficent glue, short fingers, knot holes and clogged cutter knives and send a signal to either mark or eject defective block. Using vision system technology, we have also integrated glue detection systems for I-beam and lamination lines. Using high speed video cameras for viewing, we can teach the system what is a "good" application and what is a "bad" application and either accept or reject the board or block. Lighting and containment of viewing area are essential to vision systems.

The control system provides a timed and highly accurate application repeatability while a tank, pump or meter mixer provides constant adhesive pressure. The system's single sensor is used to detect the leading and trailing edge of each board or block. As each block is sensed, the adhesive valve opens, allowing adhesive to flow until the block's back edge is sensed. Apquip has provided hundreds of finger joint systems to both end users and leading OEM manufactures of finger jointers. We have converted horizontal finger jointers, vertical packet finger jointers, single joint laminated beam machines one off designs. Apquip systems will save glue, keep the machine clean, reduce clean up time, avoid contamination and allow precise control over adhesive spread.
